I am searching for family history info on Elizabeth Norris (b.early 1770s and died around 1840). She lived in Newberry and Abbeville S.C. and married a Mr.___ Polk but was widowed with two children by 1800. She later married Ezekiel Nash of Abbeville, South Carolina in 1801, They had five more children including my g.g.g.grandfather. I would like to identify Elizabeth's parents. There is also a Thomas Norris who moved with them to mississippi around 1820.... I believe he was a brother or uncle. Any info will be greatly appreciated.----Len

I, too, am interested in the Norris family and it's relationship to the Absolom Brown and Abednego Green, Sr. families. I have located some land transaction records for Pendleton District, SC from 1806. Here they are. Hope they are somewhat helpful. Any information you get that might help connect the Norris Family with the Browns would be greatly appreciated. My great-grandfather was named Norris Brown.Early Deed transactions recorded by the State of South Carolina:

Samuel Tarbet of Washington District to John Brown for L 100 stg. for 200 acres on Brushy Creek. 7 October 1795 Then sold to Robert Sharp.

George Humphries for L 30 stg sold to James Foster 100 acres part of the land granted to Lewis on south fork of Brushy Creek bounded by Abednego Green. Witnessed by H. G. Green. 22 January 1799

John Brown and Abednego Green, Sr. are Executors of will of Ambrose Hudgens 21 September 1799. Wit. John Brown, Nancy Tarrant, and Anna Brown.

Chuck, am research in the possible parents of Elizabeth Norris, b. early 1790s, who lived in Newberry, S.C. in 1790s was the widdow of --- Pope with children Wiley and Rebecca Pope. She married my g.g.g.g. grandfather in 1801, Ezekiel Nash whose father had a farm along the Saluda River in Abbeville District (The Nash's also had property in Pendleton District). Elizabeth and Ezekiel had five children: Orsamus L. Nash, Ira Norris Nash., Stephan E. Nash, John Milton Gaines Nash, and Elvira E. Nash. The Ezekiel and Elizabeth and children later (between 1810 and 1820) immigrated to Mississippi with other related families including Thomas Norris, Abner Nash, Nimrod Nash, John Halbert possibly others. Most of these people were Baptists and had been members of Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Abbeville District, S.C. I suspect that Elizabeth's father was -------- Norris who was a Baptist Preacher in Abbeville and Newberry S.C.

Also mentioned in cica 1784 records for Mine Creek Church are JETHRO Norris. Another Thomas Norris and a xxxx(WM?) Norris and wife are listed in 1785 records of Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Abbeville District(note that the Rev Thom Norris died in 1780). William Norris is also mentioned as a deacon of Poplar sping Church in 1797 and a Thomas Norris is mentioned as a the church clerk. Both WQilliam and Thomas were founding members of Poplar Springs Baptist curch in 1784. Poplar Sprngs Cuurch branched out of Turkey Creek Baptist Church.

Marry, Do you have any info on the following Norris family members living in abbeville in 1790s and 1800-1810? Elizabeth Norris born 1772/1773, William Norris and wife Martha, Thomas Norris. I suspect that at least Thomas was related to Elizabeth as both were in Columbus mississippi by 1820 (Elizabeth who married Ezekiel Nash in 1801 had been previously married to --Pope and widowed by 1799). Elizabeth, Thomas and william were members of Turkey creek Baptist Church in 1790s and later. There was also an elder Thomas Norris (1742-1880) and wife Elizabeth who was a Baptist Minister. He was active in bothe Abbeville and Newberry until his death in 1780. He may be the father of some or all of the above. I also came across the name Jethro Norris living in Newberry S.C. in the 1790s. Any info will be gratly appreaciated (Elizabeth was my g.g.g.g.grandmother). THANKS, Len
