There is a tutorial on YouTube about splitting trees (Merge/Export/Import) with FTM 2012 version....but I looked at the 2014 version and it doesn't seem as if the same steps can be used. I'm new at this and I've not yet been too fond of FTM.
PLEASE PLEASE can someone give me step by step instructions on how to split a tree on the FTM 2014 version and create a new tree from branches
AND how to merge branches btwn existing tree.
I'm assuming that this can be synced over to trees on ancestry.com?
I know this is a large order but I've just finished sorting out a couple of trees that has taken me days and I don't want to spend days tiding things up....THANKS!!!!!

You can export folks at File > Menu > Export, or at Publish > Charts (by clicking in the blank area of a chart and choosing to export all in the chart).

You can only delete groups of folks in Publish > Charts (by clicking in the blank area of a chart and choosing to delete all in a chart).

You can export folks from a file without effecting the main file, but deleting folks from a file should only be done if you have made a backup - so that you can go back to the beginning file if you have to.

Exporting groups of folks is very frustrating because it is very difficult to export groups of folks and all of the peripheral relatives that you may have entered. This applies to parents and families of spouses, as well all members of a blended family (like where a man has had 5 wives and children by each and each of the 5 wives was married before and/or after and had children with other spouses, etc.) To gather all of the peripheral relatives into your export requires the use of the Extended Family Chart (be sure the option to NOT include ALL people in your file is checked) - but that chart is very memory intensive and cannot be run on a large file.

You can choose your desired group of descendants or ancestors in either the File > Menu < Export or Publish > Charts > Right click - Export in about the same fashion.

If you are exporting a branch to import to another file, you would import that file into the desired destination file at File > Merge - and select to not look for duplicates. You will then simply attach the top-most person in the descending branch to the appropriate parents in the other file.

Look at the Help file in FTM for step-by-step instructions.
