Seeking information on the marriages of the children of William & Margaret Ruddick of the Glen Spey area of Lumberland township. James P. married Sophia McNeely. Was she from Sullivan County? Agnes Ruddick did not marry and lived all her life in Sullivan Co., d. 1948. William D. married Martha McConnell in 1892, Manhattan, NY. But what about Mary J, b. 1862, Margaret A., b. 1867, Emma Belle, b. 1869, Susan, b. 1870 and Lilly, b. 1873??? Any help locating these children will be appreciated.

Hi there.
I am researching the McConnells, orig. from outside of Ballymena. My grandmother's sister , Martha Mcconnell married Wm Ruddick in NYC. Family legend was that 6 children emigrated to the USA when their Mother, Agnes died, and their Dad, James Mcconnell re-married. Do you know anything more of your Mcconnell connection??? If it is the same person, I have been in touch with Martha & Bill's grandchildren.

Hello,
Thanks for your response. I am not really researching the McConnells, but would be interested to know if we are talking about the same family. Here's what I know. William D. Ruddick married Martha McConnell, b. 1869 Ireland in New York City, 14 Sep 1892. They had 3 children: Walter H., b. 1894, Harold Milton, b. 26 Feb 1899 and Edwin Samuel b. 27 Sep 1906.
Wm D. Ruddick was the brother of my husband's ancestor, James Porter Ruddick.
Would be glad to know Martha's birthdate, deathdate/place.
Sincerely,
Phyllis

Hi Phyllis
Yes!!! We are talking about the same person.Martha Mcconnell Ruddick was my grandmother Eleanor's sister, which means Wm was my Dad's Uncle, and the 3 children were his cousins. Martha was born outside Ballymena NoIreland-near grange and Whitesides Corner. I have her birth as 1866, but that's not a definate.I think she died in 1936. Martha was the daughter of James(1838-1913) and Agnes Nesbit(1840-1874)(aka Annie/Nancy)Mcconnell married in Ahogill,NI in 1861. Agnes died, I presume in childbirth in 1874, the yr my grandmother was born. James re-married in 1876 and the 6 children emigrated to NY. Martha and my gran were very close. My gran lived in the Bronx.Possibly Martha lived in the Bronx OR Long Island.
Just by co-incidence,last week I was speaking to 2 of the 'children' of the Ruddick sons. Rev. Harold Ruddick(85 yrs old this month) is in Ojai Ca., and he is the son of Walter and Paula, and then there is Dr. Wm Ruddick in NYC, retired prof at NYU. He was the son of Harold Milton. Since their Dad and my Dad were cousins, I presume they are my ''2nd'' cousins?
Hope this helps you out, Phyllis. If you hear of anymore info about Martha, please let me know. Even the tiniest morsel of info could lead to a big discovery! Many thanks.

Hello again p

I just noticed your address . By any chance are you near Spicebery Place? There is a Mcconnell descendent who lives there. There is a possibility he may even have photos of Auntie Martha.
I also noticed you have been doing this awhile.I am new to it and some nights it just makes my brains turn to mush! How did you find the info about Martha?? I am having no luck with anything from NYC re: Eleanor--immigration,education or job.

Hi P
I have found a photo of martha Mcconnell Ruddick . She is pictured with her grandson,Harold, who was in the army at the time. The photo was taken in California. Also, in the photo was a 'Grandma 'Tyrell' with her grandson who was also in the army. Grandma Ruddick is holding the arm of Grandma Tyrell. Does that Tyrrell surname ring any bells? I was wondering of it could be another sister of Martha. I will be more than happy to send you this photo for your records. Dee

HELLO THERE PETER FROM B'MENA.I dont know about James Nesbitt having any siblings, but I can tell you on my great grandmother's wedding certificate dated 1861, she(Nancy Nesbitt) was the daughter of John Nesbitt, farmer from Grange, outside B'mena. The marriage took place at 2nd Presbyterian Church ,Ballymena and solemnized in the parish of Kirkinriola,Co.Antrim. Nancy Nesbitt was wed to James McConnell by Rev. Hull Stewart, and the witnessess for the marriage were ROBERT Nesbitt and MATTHEW HUSTON.-possibly haston (?). For some unknown reason, they married at 2nd Pres. Church B'mena, rather than their local church-Grange Presbyterian.Unfortunately that is all I know. Would be interested to know if you have found out any further info on the NESBITTS. Hope this helps you.
