I have been considering a theory on the parentage of George Clinton Melius. I thought that I had it just about worked out until I saw your post. You say that the father of George is Martin. What gives you that information? I will am willing to share anything I have and to discuss this with you. Please get back to me if you are interested.

George Clinton Melius is my Great Grand Uncle, married to my Great Grand Aunt Mary Ansley Barnett (the surname has been also spelt down through the years as Barnet, originally in Germany as Berndt some believe). The information I have obtained from Ancestry.com is that George's father was Martin Amasia Melius, married to Catherine Gray. The information I have goes back four generations to Johan Wilhelm Milges, born 1675 in Gonnersdorf, Germany and died in 1715 in Livingston Manor, New York.

George Clinton Melius is my Great Great Grand Father. Lewis Edward Melius his son was my Great Grand Father. His Son George Melius was my Grandfather and his son Daniel R. Melius was my father.

With that stated I found some very interesting stuff on here that nobody else has posted. For instance George Clinton Melius was a 2 year Civil War vet that would have seen heavy action in the regiment he was in. Extensive documentation on here to prove it beyond any shadow of a doubt. This same documentation gives an exact date of his death 6-2-1911 and shows that his wife mary was still alive on 6-151911. So they both made it out of the decade that everyone thinks they died in. Also on the Civil War Pension file that Mary A. filed this was her second claim. The first claim is shown as 1890 July something and reason given is Invalid. So this tells me that while George Clinton Melius lived to 1911 75 years old, he was an invalid for his last 21 years or from the time he was 54. Below is where I got all this info. Please look at the orginal documents as ancestry.com has him born 1776 and living to be 175 years old (typo on their part)

Here's last census they were in 1910:

Here's first proof that he was in Civil war but it gets better in further links:

http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?rank=1&new=1&...

Here's the Civil War Pension document that Mary A. Melius filed in both 1890 and again in Juune 15 1911.

This burial card gives his Civil war status along with where his grave is and also the exact date of his death 6-2-1911
