Antonio Casanova died in Los Angeles, California in April, 1850, age 50 [1850 US Census Mortality Schedule]. Lyman Platt says he was from "San Féliz de Quixols" in Cataluña [Spanish-American Surname Histories]. Baptismal records from Costa Rica say his parents were Juan Casanova and his wife, Margarita [NARA microfilm publication SJ-143 item 2, CB#29, F.385, A.473]. His wife was Trinidad Pino Fuentes from either Caracas or Maracaibo, Venezuela.

I am looking for any records of Antonio Casanova in Cataluña. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello:
I was at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City today and I happened to be doing research for a client in the parishes located in Gerona. Since I already had film #1171877 out. I figured that I could do a little act of service and look for your Antonio Casanova b. 1800 in Sn. Feliu, but to no avail. I looked from 1795-1801 and there is no listing. Nothing for a Casanova family at all.
It is possible that Mr. Platt was referring to the family's origin, rather than to Antonio Casanova in particular in the source you referenced. What do you think?

Also checked FHL Film #1039473 which has the records for the parish church in the town of San Feliu de Guixols, Gerona, Spain. Nothing there from 1795-1805 either.
Sorry.

Susan,

First, I must thank you for your generous act of kindness and service in looking for my 3X-ggf, Antonio Casanova, in Sant Feliu. I will be sure to "pay the favor forward", as we all do at times.

Certainly, this is a disappointment, in the sense that the information from Platt is, apparently, incorrect; but it is heartening to know that the area has been searched, even if it produced negative results.

It is entirely possible that Platt was referring to the origin of the family, or that he had the area wrong, or even that he was simply wrong. I do know, however, that, in a baptismal record from Costa Rica, Antonio Casanova, the father, is said to be "natural de Cataluña", so I must keep looking.

Thanks again, and best wishes, Lawrence
