Does there exist a printed/published compilation of burials in the cemeteries of Union Parish? I am particularly looking for any/all burials of BUCHANANS (various spellings) in Union Parish before 1920.

I don't know about a census of burials, but Union Parish has most of its cemeteries on line. Go to www.lagenweb.org, click on archives project, Union Parish, cemeteries. Union Parish has a very good web site. Hope this helps.

Go to Union Parish Archives, and you will find a wealth of information. Most of the parish cemeteries are posted.

I have been inventorying African American cemeteries in Union Parish and Union County, Arkansas. If you family lived in either parish/county, you should always check both sides of the line. So far, I have inventoried Fellowship, Mt. Pisgah, Pleasant Hill, Little Hope (Spearsville) Countyline, Springhill (Marion), Antioch (Truxno), Friendship (Shiloh) and Friendship (Litroe) in Union Parish and about 25 cemeteries in Union County. I am heading down this weekend to canvass more. If you will send me the names of the persons you are looking for, I'll check to see if I have any of them in my indices.

Hi,

I notice your post is a couple of months old. But, I could use some help as I am not familiar with Union Parish, La.

I am looking for people that there is a possibility they were buried in unmarked grave. I have checked everything that is online to no avail.

The persons I am interested in finding out where they were buried all died in the 1860's. One was an adult and the other were children. The rest of the family that died in the late 1800's and early 1900's are mostly buried at the Mar Hill Cemetery near Point, La. The census data showed they lived in Ward 5 mostly which is near to Point.

Would you please look and see if you have found anything on any of the following:

Written as Name, Date born, Date died:

Louisa Woodson Strozier 12 May 1819 3 January 1861
Emma Louise Strozier 20 Oct 1862 10 Mar 1866
Thoefalas Strozier 3 July 1865 6 Mar 1866
Theodore Strozier 3 July 1865 13 Feb 1866
William F. Impson 10 Feb 1854 13 Mar 1866
Martha M. Impson 28 Sept 1855 11 Mar 1866
Sarah E. Impson 5 Aug 1857 17 Mar 1866
Benjamin W. Impson 5 Oct 1859 5 Mar 1866

The 7 children all had the same mother. Martha Wells Impson Strozier. She was the second wife of Samuel Gathright Strozier. Louisa Woodson Strozier was the first wife of SG Strozier, and her date of death is unconfirmed, but was supposedly the date that SG wrote in his family Bible and was copied by family members back in the 1940's. She positively either died in Ouachita or Union Parish, La. But, the family Bible had her place of death as Union Parish, La. I find this a little suspect as SG did not buy land in Union Parish, La. until May 1861. And in October 1860, they were positively still in Ouachita Parish, La.

But, I would apprecite it if you would look and see if you have found any of the above people buried anywhere in Union Parish, La.

Thank you
