I recently discovered a headstone in Niagara Falls Cemetery for the above 1896 - 1966 and his wife Elizabeth Wright. I believe they went out to Canada in 1940?? If I have the right Robert Gaston Darch, he would have been my 1st cousin once removed and was born in London, England. Is there anybody in the area can help with any further information on the above couple? I am also interested in why his wife is called Elizabeth Wright and not Elizabeth Darch. Robert was married to another person whilst in England and Wrights are related to his original wife. However, this could be just a co-incidence of course.

Re: Robert Gaston DARCH, Elizabeth nee WRIGHT
Hi, The Surname on the Headstone - is DARCH - the inscription shows names Robert Gaston and his wife - Elizabeth WRIGHT - just acknowledging her maiden name . OBITUARIES - may have been published - may show names and locations of other family members at the time - some obituaries - will show some family history - or interests etc

Re: Robert Gaston DARCH, Elizabeth nee WRIGHT
There does not seem to be much Canadian information on Ancestry. Can you help with a likely Newspaper in 1966 that would have carried an obituary? It looks as if Robert Gaston Darch worked for the NYC R.R. which I presume is Rail Road? Sally

Headstone usually have the female's maiden name on it.

There is a Robert Darch b London England about the same age who signed up for WW1 in Windsor Ontario, living in Detroit with his brother, M Darch. He arrived in Canada in 1914. It would appear that this one was killed in the war. Buried Aux Rietz Military Cemetery France.

The above is the only voter's list in which her name is Elizabeth in the Welland area. 1965 voter's list has a Robert and Elizabeth Darch in Brantford-Haldimand. Last voter's list, Niagara Falls, with a Robert Darch on is 1958, 1965, and 1968 in Niagara Falls, except she is listed as Vera. Also your Robert was dead in 1966.
The last census released in Canada was for 1921.

Thank you for information. However, I have all the UK information, it is only Canadian information that I cannot get hold off.
Robert Gaston Darch did not have a brother, he only had a sister.
I wondered if there is any marriage lines in Canada for him and Elizabeth Wright. I cannot find a second marriage in the United Kingdom. I know he was married to Gladys Oram and they had a daughter Charlotte who was born and died within a day in 1918. I cannot find a definite death for Gladys (Oram) Darch or a remarriage. I think Robert arrived in 1925 in St. John. but I cannot find that entry and don't know whether "Lizzie" was with him at that time. His entry into Niagara Falls on 7th Dec 1940 says wife "Lizzie".
Any further info would be gratefully received.
Sally

Well, I did try to contact for the announcements but my email was not delivered as it was considered likely to be spam. I shall have to try another way.

Hi, This was the route I tried but as I say email was rejected as possible spam. If you could get the obit, that would be great. Thank you. Sally
