In History of Columbia and Montour Cos. in Pa, 1887, Battle, I only found a Rebecca Kinney, married to George Appleman, farmer Welliversville, Orange Twp. He was a native of Montour co, and she of New Jersey. The article is about their son George.

Seeking descendants of Peter Kinney who died in Greenwood Twp., Columbia Co., in 1819. His will lists 10 children: David, Peter, Abraham, Aaron, Mary, Rebecca, Sarah, Hannah, Knearche, and Elizabeth. Peter lived in Derry Twp. until 1812, when he sold his land and apparently moved in with Rebecca, who cared for him in his old age. Unfortunately, the will lists neither the daughters' married surnames, nor the place of residence of any of the children. Believe we are descended from Peter Jr. Would like to collaborate with other descandants of Peter Sr.

I'm sorry, Ann, but I don't have any information for you. Some of the surnames you listed suggest you might have some luck looking at families who came to PA from northwestern NJ. I only have info on 2 men (David and Peter) that I believe are Peter's sons, and they left Columbia Co. for Canada before 1820. Since both of them were born before 1800, we've got a gap of at least 2 generations. Good luck.

There was an earlier Peter Kinney who died in 1736 in Hunterdon Co.New Jersey. He had a son Adrian who preceded him in death. Adrian had a son named Peter. I wonder if this could be your ancestor. Unfortunately I have no more information about him.

The next Peter Kinney I have seen mentioned was born March 21, 1763 and died June 27, 1826. I think he may be Adrian's grandson. This Peter married Ann Banghart and they had at least four children, Margaret, Elizabeth, Eley and Andrew. Andrew Kinney settled in Montour Co. Pa. This family may be related to your Columbia Co. Kinneys.

Hi, Deb
The Abraham I'm looking for was born around 1776, married and had a baby girl by the 1810 census when he was living in Derry Twp. He left Derry before the 1820 census. Peter's first wife was named Sarah, but I don't know whether she died and he married someone named Mary.

Do you know the names/birthdates of your Abraham's children? Where did your Kinneys live? -- Lynn

Deb,
I'm embarrassed to say that my last reply was wrong. Abraham had a baby boy and wife by 1800 census. He was on the Derry tax list for 1808, but he was gone from Derry in the 1810 census. Two of his brothers are known to have gone to Trafalgar, Halton Co., ONT. One his married sisters moved to Muncy Twp, Lycoming Co. PA.

Do you still think your Abraham was the son of the Peter of Greenwood, Columbia Co PA? Peter's wife was recorded sometimes as Mary Biggs and other times as Margaret Biggs. He lived c1730-1819. When was Abraham born and where did he live. I have traced Peter back to Holland.
