My mother is a Peacock, the descendant of Rolland [1882], William Jr [1854], William [1812], Asa [1791], and Archibald, second son of Samuel "an immensely rich slave owner" -- according to a little red, self-published book that contains dates to the mid 1920s.

Can anyone tell me about the validity of the genealogy reported in this book? The second paragraph says "an account of incidents in the Peacock family early history as told by Levi and Jospeh Peacock, sons of Asa Peacock and others."

Is PEACOCK FAMILY ANCESTRY by Lanette Hill (LuLu) considered authoritative?

Any information would be appreciated. thanks!

I dont know how valid the booklet you have referenced may be, but I am a member of the Peacock Family Association of the South and John J. Pierce has extensively researched this family, if we are talking baout the same Peacocks.

I have a pamphlet "Birds of a Feather" that he published that list Archibald as the 4th son of Samuel. Archibald born abt 1762 in Dobbs County, N.C. died 1845 presumably in Washington Co., GA. The pamphlet list Archibalds children as Rhoda 1788-1830s, Asa 1790-1872, John 1791-1860s, and Willis 1795 or 1798-1860s.

If this looks like the Peacocks you are researching email me at bamawildmn@comcast.net and I will be more than happy to share what info I have.

You can also go to www.peacockfamily.org and see if there is anything there to help.

The little red self published booklet is a history written by descendants of Asa Peacock( 1790-1872) of N.C. and Indiana. It contains information from family tradition and not from records ,so it is not "verified" as "authentic".
The book by Lynett Hill has information taken without the knowlege of people who have other posts and websites that can be found on the internet. Since information posted on websites is considered public property, so to speak, anyone can use what information they find there and publish a book. The Hill book contains information from several different websites and posted histories so it should only be used as a guideline since some of those histories have not been absolutely verified and some of them are now known to contain errors. The best and most accurate information on the Peacock history can be found at the Peacock Association of the South whose historian is very careful not to claim something as absolutely accurate without documentation to back it up. He does speculate and give "best guesses" and "circumstantial evidence" but always acknowleges and explains his reasoning for those things for which he does not have "verification". His name is John J Pierce and he has published a large hardcover book on the line of Levi Peacock (1756-1822) who was born in Wayne County N.C. and died in Wilkinson County Ga. The origin of Levi Peacock of Pierce's book is the same as many if not most of the Peacocks who now have descendants in the Southern and Western states and even some in Northern and Midwestern and Mideastern states. Mr. Pierce and the Peacock Family Association of the South have much data and information and documentation of other lines who are related to the Levi Peacock line as well as data for lines that have not been established as having originated with the Peacocks who were in N.C. as early as 1720.
Perhaps this will help in your search for Peacock documentation.

I would take the info "with a grain of salt". Which one was supposed to have been the immensely rich slave owerner, Archibald or Sameul? If Archilbad was supposed to be the rich slave owner, something must have happened for on the 1830 and 1840 Washington Cty census, he is shown as owning no slaves.

By any chance on your Peacock line would you have connection to the surnames Covington, Harvey, Bowen, Gibbs or Jones Families in Georgia. I am trying to find more information on my gg grandmother Louisa Edna (Edney)Peacock. I have not been able to find anything on her after 1870, where she was listed in Wilcox County, GA. She was married first to a Harvey, then a Covington and then a Bowen. Any help would be appreciated. I can provide a more information and I am willing to share.

I do not have any of those names in my Peacock branch which derives from North Carolina but went to Indiana and then west. Other branches of my ancestors went south into S. Carolina, Georgia and Texas. I suggest you re-post by starting a new thread so that it is more prominent in the list. Good luck.

Hi Lydia,
I haven't found any connection to the book you mention, but if you, or any other Peacocks would like to compare notes on the Peacock family in England my email address is manic.martins@virgin.net
