Hello,

My name is Chad Heintz.

Matthias & Katie Junk are my great-great grandparents. Nellie (their daugter) married Matthew Heintz, they are my great grandparents. Herbert Heintz (son of Matthew & Nellie) is my grandfather & he married Beatrice Sherwood.

I recently set an account with ancestory.com and have been doing research on our family. Though I am able to track the Heintz family (in depth), I am having a difficult time tracking anyone past Matthias & Katie.

Any further information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Chad

Chad, I'm wondering why Matthias's wife is listed as Katie some places and Maggie in others. Based on photos I have of my grandmother's mother (Maggie), she is listed as Margaret, not Katie or Katherine. I believe that Margaret Mahloch had a sister Katie Mahloch. Google Jacob Mahloch for an article about him, and a photo. He was Margaret/Katie's father. He fought in many major Civil War battles, such as Gettysburg, for a Wisconsin regiment.

Hi Linda,

It seerms that this side of the family poses somewhat of a mystery. I too don't understand why Katie is listed as Maggie & vice versa.

Let me verify a few things with you:

Jacob Mahloch married Anna Maria Lucus, correct?

Carl Mahloch married Anna Maria Shenk, correct?
Their son would be Jacob Mahloch.

Also, I have Katie listed as being married to a John George Frederick Matthias Franz Junk (aka Matthias Junk?). According to ancestory.com, he married Elizabeth Ann Guscott on May 16, 1886 in England. I am so confused! Perhaps you could shed some light on this : )

Also, according to my grandmother (Beatrice Sherwood), my grandfather (Herbert Heintz) was 1/4 Native American. She told me that Nellie was 1/2 Native American. Do you have any insight on this? I am trying to clarify if this is truth or "tall tale" passed down from the family through the years.

I have googled Jacob Mahloch and found his pictures and some information that has furthered me in my search, but it never hurts to verify with family too.

Thanks for all info that you have given so far...look forward to hearing from you soon.

Chad

Chad, I don't know why I never responded to you? Carl and Anna Schenk Mahloch were Jacob's parents. Jacob and Anna Maria Lucas were married 16 Nov 1869 I believe. Margaret Mahloch married first Matthia Junk, then later a Mr. Boetz/Bates. They lived on his farm near Carlyle Lake in Illinois. Margaret was buried in the town of Vernon, IL.
Nellie had no native american blood that I know of. Don't know about Matthew Heintz, but I doubt it.
Nellie divorced Matthew Heintz for cruelty in 1942. Later she married an Edward Klubertanz when he was extremely old and evidently on his death bed. Another descendant of Matthew Heintz and Nellie said his grandfather didn't have much good to say about Nellie because supposedly she left behind some of her children when she left M. Heintz. We need to check dates to see if that makes sense per the ages of the children in 1942...Please email me directly to discuss: linda@laffeygroup.com
