I am the granddaughter of Clarence Stanley
Laird. He was one of 9 children of George Clarence
Laird and Mary Martin
Laird. The siblings, who reached maturity, were Clarence, Eugene, Stella, George Ross,
Olive, Elizabeth, and Sarah
Laird. Eugene
Laird lived in
Washington. Grandpa
Laird lived in
Belpre,
Hutchinson, and
Meade,
Kansas, and passed away in 1965.
Recently, about 4 months ago, I began working on finding genealogical information on my grandfather's brothers and sisters and their families. When I came to
Uncle Eugene Laird's branch of the family, I already had the names of his two daughters, and had at least surnames of their respective husbands. I started looking to see what other information I could locate to document their lives - vital statistics, occupations, places lived, etc.
Eugene
Laird was married first to Irma A. Johnson, and second to someone called Madelyn (last name unknown). I believe Irma and Gene died in the Seattle area, but have no information about when Irma died. I assume it was between 1934 and 1940. I have no information on the 2nd wife, other than her first name.
Eugene and Irma
Laird had two daughters - Irmajene O. and Elizabeth
Laird.
Irmajean
Laird was married to Clifford
Otto Moe until his death, and then was married to
Pete Bordell. She died in 2003 in Ephrata.
Elizabeth
Laird was married to someone by the name of
Taylor (I still don't have details on that family). I believe she passed away before 2003.
At one point in my research, I made a request for an obituary from a
Grant county source, and sent off for an abridged military record on Irmajean's husband, Clifford
Moe, who was an officer in the US
Navy during WW-2. The military report came back giving me his rank and some other general information about him. Then, this past week, I got a surprise in the mail - a packet from the Department of the
Navy Personnel Command, Retired
Records Section containing a lapel pin and a medal, along with a note indicating Clifford Moe's military record had been reviewed. It was apparently discovered, in the process of examining the man's record in order to send me information, that Clifford
Moe was entitled to receive items that had never been awarded to him during his lifetime.
It is my understanding that Clifford
Moe was a well-known attorney in the Ephrata area. He was a chief asst. attorney general (before WW-2), a
Washington state senator from Legislative Dist. 13 from 1939-1941, a retired
Navy Lieutenant
Commander (WW-2), and a practicing attorney in Ephrata up until his death in 1979.
I would very much like to find a relative or a member of Clifford Moe's family to send these military items to. Clifford and Irmajean
Moe did not have children, so far as I am aware, but I believe Clifford may have had two sisters who had children, and his wife's sister may have had children. However, with all the problems these days with identity theft, the relative will need to send sufficient proof of their relationship to Clifford
Moe satisfy me that they are actually entitled to receive the items. A family tree with pertinent details that only
Moe or
Laird family members would know would probably suffice.
Your assistance in helping me direct these military awards to an appropriate family member related to Clifford
Moe will be very much appreciated. Thank you. Claudia
