I have just traced my Berry surname back to Willem Jansen Roome dob 1632 Rotterdam Netherlands. Willem's granddaughter Maria married Marten Berry. That's where the connection starts. Where I have a direct line back to me, I'm more interested in contacting distant relatives of the Roome connection. Any contacts would be greatful. Thank-you

I can't believe I'm just seeing your post. Wiliam Roome and wife Jannetje Jans are in my family tree. I have that they had a daughter, Maria Roome dob 11/20/1689 who married Marten Berry dob 1693. It is through the Berry name that I can trace back to myself. For years the family thought Germany and England were the major countries that our descendants came from. But now it seems that quite a few came from the Netherlands. I have connections to the name Paulus, Ryersen (Reyerse, Reijerszen), Francen, VanSwindrecht, Vangelder, Coerten, Doremus, Jong, Arianse, and Hermensen, all of who either were born in the Netherlands or are descendants of the country. Thank-you so much for your post. Jo

I'm also related to Berry and Roome. Our family name became Romer when Peter 2/10/1758 moved to NY state (Sullivan County area) and married Louisa Witty (second wife). His first wife was Jannitje Freeland and he had Samuel, Catharina, Hendrik, Margaret, Hester, Richard, Famicke, Jannitje between 1981 and 1800, all with last name of Roome. With Louisa he had Henry, Peter, Elizabeth, Jacob and William between 1805 and 1814, all with the last name of Romer. William is my direct ancestor and his sons ended up taking the name Rome, which was probably the pronunciation of Roome. Our family continues with the name Rome

Lori: Thank-you for your response. I'm at work right now, so I can't share my direct line with you until later. I guess this means we are distant relatives!! I believe there is a 'Berry' house in NJ that was built by one of the Berry's and it's still standing. I will send you the particulars when I get home this evening. Again...thank-you for your response. Have a good day.

Hi - My mom died suddenly last week, so I've kind of lost track of e-mail and to whom I've responded or not. It was a sweet time to get all 7 siblings together. We hadn't all managed to be in the same place at the same time for nearly 20 years. You had mentioned you'd let me know more info on the Berrys and etc. Hope spring weather is starting to come your way. It's still snowing here in the Teton Mountains.

Hi Jo-Ellen and Lori---I am a Berry/Roome descendent, too. I'm looking for info about Hannah Roome. The Warner Roome genealogy gives her as daughter of Jacobus Roome and Anna ( Annatje, Johanna) Spier. She is said to have married John Birch .and had a daughter Sarah Birch who married John Berwick. John Berwick and Sarah Birch Berwick had Mary born in 1798. Mary married Israel Wilson in 1819. Do any of these names ring a bell?? Thanks, June

I haven't really dug into this family enough to be able to add anything to what's already out there. Sorry! But, stay in touch, okay? Hopefully this summer I'll get more time to do some research on family history.
