Hi,

William was also my great uncle...his sister (Laura) was my grandmother. I'm trying to find out information about his wife and kids. I know he has a son named John Edwin but that is all I know.

If you have any info that would be great.

Thanks
Laura

Hi!

I know that he had also a daughter, and his son died in 1977. I don't remember his wife's name, but I can look for it if you reply to the mail. It would be nice to stay in touch with you, just to meet someone new. I am a big fan of Fairbairn and it's cool to know there's someone of his family here. My mail is agalvan91@hotmail.com

Hello. My name is Roger Whybrew. My mother was Helen Fairbairn, her father Frank Fairbairn, his father George Fairbairn. George was Married to Laura and his daughter Laura b1886 I believe married Frederick Simpson in 1906 but went to Canada where they had three children. Which one are you related to. I am quite excited that at last a member of the family has turned up in Canada because there are memories only of Cissie who my mum was very fond of. I'm rambling. If we have a connection can we swap some info. I have a gedcom of over 1000 souls and most are related to my mum.

Hi Roger, I was so pleased to receive your note. It appears that both you and I are great grandchildren of George and Laura Fairbairn. You're correct that my grandmother Laura married Frederick Simpson and came to Canada. However, they had 11 children total and 2 died in infancy. My mother Winnifred was one of the 9 surviving children. I look forward to sharing more info with you. I'll contact you through your e-mail "old geezer". Mine is laura.d.andrews@gmail.com

Hi Roger et al,
My curiousity about your family has been aroused given that although your George appears to have been born in Liverpool, his older siblings all state Scotland as their birthplace.

Do you know who their parents were, and where in Scotland?

I don't have a known connection to your family, just a curiousity about how assorted Scottish FAIRBAIRN families fit together.

Regards

Hello Lorna. George was born in Liverpool the son of Robert Fairbairn and Elizabeth Young. Robert was born in Eckford, Scotland in about 1799 and Elizabeth hails from Dunbarton, Scotland born in 1821. As you see Robert was a bit older than Elizabeth and she may have been a second wife. They were married in Blantyre Lanarkshire in 1847. Robert is described as a 'Civil Engineer' on birth certs. He is very much an elusive mystery though because he doesn't appear on either the Scottish or the English census' information (as far as I am able to find) that covers his wife and family. I have no death record either. I don't know whether he went abroad at all but some of his grand children through George went to Canada and America.
The family of Robert (specifically Robert junior and George) spent their adult life in the south of England and the London area.
Apart from younger Robert and George together with their mother their is little known about the rest of the family of Robert senior.
I hope this helps answer your question and makes some sense. Roger
