Seeking information on the Haggard family. My great grandmother was Lulu Haggard, daughter of Thomas J. Haggard. She was born in 1881 and died in 1907. She was married to Joseph O. Smith. She had two children: David J. Smith who died in 1943 and my grandmother, Agnes E. Smith Vaughn.

Not related, just trying to help. The first I could find on this family was in the 1850 census for Ohio, Madison county, Pleasant township, page 22, where the family was headed by John Haggard, 26. blacksmith, born in Ohio, and included Martha, 25, Va, - William S, 3, Ohio, - James H, 1, Ohio, and who I believe was Martha's father, Thomas W Thacker, 60, farmer, Va. I could not find a marriage for John and Martha, but there was a marriage in Madison county in Nov 1846 for James Haggard and Elizabeth Thacker. In the 1860 census the family was in Indiana, Tippecanoe county, Shelby township, page 20, and was headed by John W Haggard, 34, blacksmith, born in Ohio, and included Martha J, 34, Va, - William S, 12, Ohio, - James H, 11, Ohio, - Thomas J, 9, Ohio, - Mary E, 7, Ohio, - Martha A, 6, Ohio, - John W, 4, Ohio, - Nancy J, 1, Ind, and Charles Cain, 22, owh blacksmith, England. I could not find the family in 1870 but believe that Thomas was in Misssouri, Clark county, Union township, page 13, where he is listed as Thomas Haggard, 19, works as blacksmith, born in Ohio. By 26 Aug 1877 he was back in Tippecanoe county where he married Agnes Miller, source is book C-15, page 336. In the 1880 census the family was in Indiana, Tippecanoe county, Shelby township, Dist 48, page 8D, an was headed by Thomas Haggard, 30, blacksmith, born in Ohio, father in Ohio and mother in Va, and included his wife Agnes, 24, keepshouse, born in Ind, father in Pa and mother in Va, - his daughter Mollie, 1, Ind, - his daughter Berthie, 1/4, born in Ind the previous March, and his Bro Robert Cain, 12. That is hard to explain. In the 1900 census the family is in Benton county, Oak Grove township, Dist 7, page 1B, and was headed by Thomas J Haggard, 49, born Jan 1851, married 22 years, blacksmith, born in Ohio, father in Ohio, and mother in Va, and included his wife Agnes, 44, Mar 1856, married 22 years, mother of 10, all still living, born in Ind, father in Ohio and mother in Ind, - his daughter Lulu S, 18, JUN 1881, - his son Alpheus, 16, Aug 1883, Ind, - his daughter Nellie, 12, Jul 1887, Ind, - his son Harry S, 9, Aug 1890, Ind, - his daughter Flosie, 8, Jan 1892, Ind, - his daugter Ruby V, - 7, Feb 1893, Ind, - his son Louis M, 4, Sept 1895, Ind, - his daughter Mary A, 3, May 1897, and his daughter Bessie A, 9/12, Aug 1899, Ind. Hope this helps. Don

I am curious about the mentioned James Haggard, born in 1849. Do you know anything about who he married and if he had a son named Theodore? I have been desparately searching for any information on my husbands' family and this would be wonderful if we happen to "fit" here! Please e-mail me at melanie131313@live.com, if you have any other information. Thanks so much!

Melanie. That was an old post and as I said am not related. I believe James Haggard married Sarah E Kiser in Tippecanoe county, Indiana on 27 Nov 1867, source is book C-11, page 514. In the 1880 census they had a son Theodore who was born in Feb 1880. Don
