Looking for the parents of William O. Castle who resided in Floyd Co. Iowa in 1895. William O. Castle and wife Alice are shown on state census with children: Benjamin and Maynard. I also found Erastus Castle and wife Diana living in Iowa on the 1880 Federal Census along with son, William age 27, daughter in law Alice age 19, and son, Bradley A. Castle. I know that in some records William is shown as William J. Castle...Is it possible that these two are one and the same? Our William Castle died 1922 and wife Alice died 1925 in Bemidji, MN where they are buried. William and Alice's son, Benjamin, is our ancestor.

I believe the William O. Castle family and his father, Erastus, may connect to the Castle family I've been researching for many years. Erastus appears on the 1851 census in the same area of the Eastern Twps. of Quebec as several other Castles, nearly all of whom eventually returned to the U.S.

Parents must be Erastus Castle and Diana Woodard Castle. Both are buried near Nora Springs, Iowa. Your ancestor William O. must be the brother of my grandfather's grandmother, Lydia Castle Gray. Erastus and Diana spent their early married life in Quebec, Canada, later emigrating to Boone County, IL, and then Iowa. I am stunned to discover that your William O. lived and died in Bemidji. That's my hometown! My grandparents moved there in 1937. I had heard that we may have had distant cousins in the area at one time, and a few years ago I did find a Castle buried in the old Guthrie cemetery. Had no idea about William and Alice.
