Alvah Fay

Geri Beber  (View posts) Posted: 5 Mar 2000 7:22PM GMT
I'm looking for info on my great great grandfather, Alvah Fay, b 1805 in Vermont, married Augusta Ellis. I do not know the date of his death, or where he is burried.
I believe it could be So. Dakota. Thanks Geri Beber

I believe Alvah was actually born in Canada, as were his brothers. He married Augusta Ellis on 14 April 1828 in Quebec, Canada. He died in Wells, Minnesota on 3 Feb 1881. His wife died in South Dakota 26 March 1898. My husband is descended from Alvah through his son, Moses. Have more family info if interested.

I get so exited. I am descended from Alvah through his son Nathan Ellis, I think your husband and I are cousins. My mother was Mae Etta Fay, grandaughter of Nathan.

I am making a reply to your email re: Alvah FAy because
of the connection in VT. I am attempting to connect
a Laura Ann FAy, dgtr of Henry Fisk FAy and Betsey Talcott,
to Stephen DAvis of VT. I believe they migrated to Canada
at some point. Do your records reflect any such
connection? If so and you are willing to share it
and/or the source of your information I would be most
appreciative.

Thank you,
Michele

Michelle, I am not familiar with any of the names you mentioned. I think quite a few Fays were from Vermont. Also, many of the Fays that actually lived in Quebec traveled back into Vermont to get married. I will watch for those names in my research. Sorry I could not be of help.

Dear Beth,

I appreciate your interest. I'm going to VT in two
weeks to research this very connection. The Fay's I
research migrated from Franch, Wales, New England - MA,
and to Vermont. My direct ancestors are the figures
relating to the Green Mtns Boys and Ethan Allen.
Do you know if Fays are confirmed in the society of
Huguenots?

Please keep in touch,
Michele

John Fay owned a tavern in Bennington Vt in 1760 where the Green Mt Boys met. He and his five sons fought in the battle of Bennington and one son, Dr Jonas Fay, authored the Vt. constitution, the first document to outlaw slavery in the U.S.
The nexIt generation donated his house in Windsor Vt to an historical society. It is now called the Constitution House. Its a state landmark. Please let me know what you've found out.

Jack Dunn,

I am delighted by your response. I have returned from
a trip of wonderful discovery in Vermont with highlights
on the Vermont Fay line. I am currently putting together
an 'article' so called to enter into the message board.
I intend also to revisit Vermont soon...so such items as the
Constitution House can be appreciated.

You peek my interest about the newspaper articles and
family furniture. Please expect a call from me at the
number you offered.

Michele
