I am looking for information on Mary Jane Wotton who married Edward Richard Holder in 1873. There is no information on her marriage certificate, no age, no parents, and witness at the wedding was her mother's second husband James Sutton.
I'm curious to know where her birthdate of 26 Dec 1858 in Mudgee came from, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sharon,
The church registers will have details of parents, age and birthplace for both the bride and groom. These details were not passed on to the registry of BDMs in many country areas. Try contacting the family history society and/or the genealogical society in Inverell (there are two), as sometimes they have already accessed the local church registers and recorded the info. If they can't help then you will need to contact the church. FamilySearch is also starting to add these church registers to their database, but at the moment they only have the later marriages of Edward and Mary Jane's two sons.
If Mary Jane was born on 28 December then possibly she is the birth registered in 1859 at Mudgee. Generally you will find that any BDMs which occurred in the last few weeks in December were not registered until the following year. You would need to get a copy of that birth cert. to confirm the dates.
I see from her headstone that she died in November 1937 and that an inquest was held. I don't see a death reg. for her and this is not unusual as it was not considered necessary to also issue a death cert when an inquest was held.

HI Debra, thank you very much, that's great help. Unfortunately Inverell Family History Group was desimated by a fire - 2 years ago now I think - and most they had was lost.
Where did you see that there was an inquest into her death? I'm not sure where to search for that information...

A Mary Jane Wotton is on the NSW indexes born 1859 Mudgee #9800 to William and Julia. If born Dec 1858 would show on 1959 indexes.
Julia Wotton married James Sutton 1868 in Tamworth
