Suggestions for reputable film restoration companies

I have a box of old 8mm and 16mm family films that I am looking to convert to digital. Can someone recommend a reputable company that can do this? I have looked at several online companies, but they all seem to have mixed reviews and some want as much as $400 which is ridiculous.

The conversions are often problematic and time consuming. Old film gets brittle and may discolor or fade. Everyone like to get paid for what they do. The extra money is probably to handle when things go wrong. Just because a company can process a film and everything goes great and the client is happy doesn't mean they will be so luckly the next time.

I realize that they are problematic, but I am assuming there are companies out there that do this and that I am not the first person in the world to be interested in having those old films transferred to a more friendly format. Unfortunately, I have yet to find one that doesn't have lots of scam reports attached to it which is why I posted this inquiry.

Yes, I know. I assume they all use their own custom equipment.

Obviously, some will be better than others.
