Looking for any information concerning James Hunter of Ireland. Understand that he might have been from Armagh.
He had a son named Robert, which is my decendency line.
Would appreciate any information concerning this family.

Sorry I did not reply before this. The Robert Hunter that is of my line had two brothers Archibald, and James. They settled in Orange County NY. Robert was married to Elizabeth Gillespie and had a son, James Hunter....the decendency was as follows: Robert Hunter, Matthew Robert Hunter, Robert Kidd Hunter, Hiram Hunter, George Hunter, Raymond Hunter, then me. Hi Elaine, I came across your post. There was an Archibald hunter and two James Hunters in Onondaga County ,N.Y.
approx. 1853 - 1904. Is this any connection. My James Hunter was born 1821( Scotland) married Jane Meicle ( Meikle). I have more info if this the same family.

I was hunting through the board for the same information as you, as I am also descended from Robert Hunter (b. ca. 1714 in Ireland?, d. 1783) who married Elizabeth Gillespie...My line is:
Matthew Hunter (1750-ca. 1804) m. Antje Crist (ca 1748-ca. 1802)
Elizabeth Hunter (1773-1844) m. Jacobus Smith (1769-1846)
Matthew Smith (1795-1876) m. Eliza Moule (1801-1839)
Harriet Smith (1828-1882) m. Nelson VanKeuren (1826-1907)
Henry Smith VanKeuren (1852-1927) m. Kittie May Palmer (1853-1917)
Leota VanKeuren (1896-1990) m. John Howard Stitt (1893-1962) (my grandparents)

At any rate, given the estimated birth date of Robert, I'm guessing his father, James Hunter, would have been born in County Armagh around 1670-1690.

hi I am looking for william hunter born apx 1825 in armargh. he married jane mccormick (also from armargh) they moved to scotland pre 1846 and had their family in lanarkshire. i am tracing my line, their son james hunter born 1858 in cambusnethan,lanark,scotland. can anyone help please?
