My newly found great aunt, Paulina Bojanowska married John Nowastko in 1889 in Cleveland, OH and they had a daughter Stanislava. They are listed in the 1910 US Federal Census at 1133 Junction Street, Detroit City, MI. Paulina's sister, Teofila Bojanowska is living in the same household. The family immigrated from West Prussia in Poland in the 1880s. Is there still a Junction Street? What Cemeteries are in the area? Roman Catholic Church? Any help finding information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for a Walter Bojanowski who recently died in Detroit in 2001. His wife was Shirley North. He resided on Rosemont in Detroit and was born in 1917. Have found no info on him in the census but as to your questions;

Junction is still in existence. The cemeteries close to that street are Holy Cross RC Cemetery on Dix Ave. in Detroit and Woodmere which is a few blocks away from Junction. This is the west side of Detroit where Poles migrated to. Most resided on the East side and the heavy duty Polish cemetery is actually Mt. Olivet and Mt. Elliot. Mt. Olivet is located on Van Dyke and if you give them a call, they will search their records. It may be better to write the Mt. Elliot and Woodmere. Holy Cross will give you answers right over the phone.

Junction area had many Poles and Hungarians.

Hope this helps.

RC Churches in the area;

St. Hedwig on Junction is still in existance. St. Lawrence is closed as is St. John Cantius. You would have to go to the archives in Detroit and read the films. Cost is $10 per day for the use of their collection or $100 per year (and everyone is truly pissed about this). Also, St. Stephen which is closed.

I'm researching my husband's side of the family. His great aunt, Anna Fladzinski married Barney Bojanowski, I believe, in the city of Detroit. Barney was born 1885 and Anna in 1888, both in Poland. As for your questions, yes, Junction Avenue still exists, and there are quite a few cemeteries in our area. One of the oldest Catholic cemeteries is Holy Cross (313) 841-0545. Other possibilities are Mt. Olivet (313) 365-5650 or Woodmere (313) 841-0188. These are all in the Detroit city limits.

I am a fairly new member with only a year of computer skills, so I just found this site. My Grandfather was Anthony Fladzinski who immagrated in 1907 with his Uncle Olejnikand three siblings as a child. He had one brother and two sisters. His older sisters polish name was Sanina but was changed to just Anna. I know they went to Detroit and Anna did marry,but I don't know to whom. My Grandfather came to Iowa enlisted in WW1 and settled here. He had seven children incliding my Grandmother.I'm looking for his siblings and his parents and where they were buried. His father was Joseph and mother was Klemyntyne. She died and a step mother named Marie and they had three more daughters. Do you know of any of these people? Thanks Donna

Hi. I don't recognize any of these names, however my mother-in-law's maiden name is Fladzinski. Her father and mother, Chester Alexander (1914) and Julia Frances Fladzinski (nee: Widzgowski) were from Detroit and later moved to Marlette, Michigan. I'm sure the father of Chester had to have had brothers, but I don't have names. If you'd like to chat you can reach me at lkozlows@yahoo.com

Barney Bojanowski was my great grandfather. But the records I have from my grandmother, Lenore (Bojanowski) Langowski given to me for a family history project sometime back in 1965-67 indicate that Barney married Anna (Antonia) Detkowski. I am confident that was her name. I have never heard of the surname Fladzinski. My email is DRaitz@aol.com.
