I am trying to find information on Walter J Ody. I know he was a cattle puncher and ran a cattle drive. I believe this was in the middle to late 1800s. He also performed as local talent in the Buffalo Bill Show. I am in possession of items that were personally his, and am interested in more history. I have just begun researching the Ody family. I believe that Walter J. Ody is my husband's Great Great Grandfather. He had just finished telling me the Cattle Puncher story when I found this post. Walter Ody was my great grandfather. He was born in 1868, and died in Washington State in 1948. He had 4 children. His daughter, Evelyn, was my grandmother. His other children were Vivian, Walter, and Gene? E-mail me, and we can share more.

Hi. Walter was my great grandfather too. One of his son's was my grandfather Herbert. My father was his son, Ivan Ody. All came from Wiltshire, Wooton Bassett area. I've been emailing Chris Ody, cousin x times removed I found out. He's brill. Got tonnes of info and doing a family tree, bless him. Wot a task! Hi David ( I have a cousin David Ody in Perth, Australia!).
The Chris Ody I've been in contact with is about 40ish and living in Oxford. He does a lot of gigging in the pubs around Oxford, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire way. I haven't seen him yet but he sent a brochure a while ago with his picture on it. He's about 6ft with shoulder length black hair. I haven't been in touch with him lately but he knows a heck of a lot about the Ody's but not my side of them. Mine were from WIltshire, Devizes, Lyneham, Malmesbury. My Grandfather was Herbert Ody and he was one of about 8 children. My Dad (Ivan) has now departed and only have one uncle (Keith) living in Oz (David's father).
So, don't know if any of this helps but I could contact Chris for you to see if he knows anymore about your side of the family.
NB - The Ody's came to this country from Normandy and Germany with William the Conqueror and one of them was apparently the half brother of King Richard the Lionheart!! Other than that, I don't know a lot more, so if you do, I'd be grateful for the info.We might have some unclaimed land somewhere, eh! Ha ha!
