My great grandmother was Virginia Mash and is in the 1910 census for Bainbridge, Ga. Though I believe she died shortly there after. My grandmother, Martha Grace Smith often said that her mother came from a town where Marsh was almost the only surname and that about half changed to Mash. Think there might be a connection? Hi Pam. What time frame was your Margaret Mash Bare from? My g-g-grandmother was Rhoda Mash born about 1834 in Ashe, NC daughter of Henry and Nancy Mash. Rhoda married first Jacob Miller 2nd to John Cox. I believe this Mash family to have been Cherokee Indian especially looking at a picture I have of Rhoda and her granddaughter told a cousin she was 100% Cherokee. I haven't been able to prove it yet.

Any chance this Henry Mash had a son named Asa? I just found out my gr gr grandfather Asa's father was a Henry from NC, and my grandmother told me Asa's mother was 100% Indian (unknown tribe). Any info would be appreciated. I am a little stalled on this.

My grandfather was one of those who changed his name from Mash to Marsh. His father was George Washington Mash (born: 23 Apr 1894)whose father was Noah Mash. My grandmother who is an Eller is also from Ashe County (the northwestern part of NC). The Wiles side of her family was Cherokee Indian. If you have any information regarding Noah Mash or his wife Susan Bare, please let me know at my e-mail address petrology_queen@hotmail.com. Thank you so much for your prompt attention!

Hi Charles. Henry and Nancy had a son Jesse. I don't know who he married. On the 1850 Ashe Co., NC census, it shows him as 4/12. On the 1860 census, he is 11 years old. Please e-mail me at CherokeeProudJH@aol.com

Hi! My name is Wanda Blevins. I have just started tracing my roots. I saw in your message that you are related to Rhoda Miller. My father was Billy Edward Mash, born 1/2/1931, died 6/6/1981. His parents were Robert(Bob}Mash born 9/26/1901 died 12/28/1990 and Stella Rose Mash born 3/20/1904 and died 2/8/1998. If you have any information it would greatly be appreciated.
