Hi Allyn:
I have a great grandfather, Valentine Gmerek. Are you looking for that name. I have no info on the family at all. His daughter Mary Theophilia married my grandfather Robert Weber. Let me know if any of this is related to your family. Thanks!

Hello Roxanne: I had a great uncle named Walenty (sometimes anglosized to Valentine) who came to Buffalo with my grandfather in late 1800's. They came from what is now Poland territory...then under Prussia.
Do you have any idea where he might have come from or when he died? Do you know of any of your older relatives who might have a clue?
I never knew either of them. They died long before I was born.

Info on Valentine (Walenty?)
Allyn:
I have asked my aunt (via e-mail) to give me any additional information that she may have on her father, Valentine. She gave me his date of birth as Jan 31st, but not the year. I'll try to see if she just forgot to include it. His date of death was March 26th 1955. He was married to a woman, Frances Gudezewiz (or Gudeswiz) on Nov 20th, 1894. They had ten children. I can not find any family name of Gudezewiz (either spelling). Out of the ten children none are living. The only information I seem to be able to get from my aunt is from my grandmother's bible. Will see what else she can come up with. Thanks for responding.

Valentine (Walenty) Gmerek
Roxanne: Have you found any further info on him?
|
Hi Allen: Here is what I've been able to get: Valentine was born Jan 31, 1873 to Bartholomew and Barbara Gmerek (sometimes spelt Gmyrek according to my Grandmother's bible)somewhere around Warsaw Poland. When he was 10 he came to the united states (1883). I have no mention of how many siblings he may have had. Hope you can help ! Thanks, Roxanne

Re: More info on Valentine
My grandfather was Anthony Gmerek and I have had contact with Allyn Gemerek in the past. I have looked at the records at the Old Saint Stanislaus Cemetery in Buffalo, New York and the records for this cemetery are not well kept and trying to find the headstones was a job but here is what I found.
Wawrzyn Gmerek died 2/16/34 Walenty Gmerek died 3/23/1910 Franciszek Gmerek died 8/12/1912 Dorota Gmerek died 5/5/28 aniela Gmerek died at birth 6/15/24
I don't know if these are all relatives to me becuase of the poor record keeping. They don't say where born or married to, or anything like that.
Hope this helps.

Re: More info on Valentine
Christine: Do you still have a copy of the brief history on Gmerek/Gemerek family in Buffalo which I sent you last year? Simon (Szymon, originally) was your greatgrandfather. Wawrzyn, Walenty and Franciszek were his brothers. I have no info on Dorota or Aniela. If you are interested in seeing the obituaries for Szymon and Wawrzyn, go to the Buffalo Historical Society building and ask the librarian for the microfilm of the polish daily newspaper. I can give you the date and page numbers if interested.
As concerns Roxanne's request, I do not see a connection between her Valentine and ours (Walenty, originally). Our Valentine/Walenty's parents were named Michal Gmerek and Mary Stanulawski.
