Hello,
I have been tracing my
Commins relatives of the Dowagiac and Watervliet area in southwest
Michigan. Here's a quick summary. Do you see any connection?
Thomas
Commins of Ardee, County
Louth, Ireland came to the United States in the early 1850's. His sister, Catherine
Commins McCartney (my great-grandmother) was already living in
Milan,
Ohio (near
Sandusky,
Ohio). Thomas married Mary
Mullen of County Tyrone in
Sandusky in 1855. They had 4 children in
Ohio (Mary Ann or Mary Jane, b. 1857, Julia, b. 1859, Dennis, b. 1860, and Emma, b. 1861). Then they moved to
Cass County in southwest
Michigan where Thomas's brother Dennis lived. Thomas and Mary had 8 more children: Frank, Lewis, Fred, Will, Charles,
Augustus, Edward, and John.
I know the descendants of all these 12 children except for Lewis and Dennis. The last we knew about Lewis and Dennis was in the early 1900's when they lived in
Minnesota and then later
Nevada (Dennis). There is a family story that Lewis may have moved to the wheat fields of
Alberta, Canada.
Thanks for any information you have.
