Origins of the surname, ancestors in Italy?

Genevieve Bisagna  (View posts) Posted: 31 May 2001 1:15PM GMT
I am looking for the hometown in Italy of my great great grandfather Frank (Francesco) Bisagna. On a property deed we have he is listed as Frank Frambase- "from Base". I haven't been able to locate an italian village named Base or a name close to that. Apparently it is near Rome, but more central and possibly southern. He had a son named John Bisagna born in 1900 in Italy, but moved to New Hamburg, New York when he was 5. Any information? I am an italian studies major at the University of Washington and would like to know more about my ancestry, and if possible visit the region.

I was interested in your posting. My father (Giuseppe) was the son of Giuseppe Bisagna and Girolama LaBarbera and they were all from MezzoJuso, a small mountain town in the province of Palermo, Sicily. I don't know of any John or Giovanni in his immediate family. Hope this helps.

My great grandfather was Francesco Bisagna from Italy and I think John was his oldest son. My mother is from New Hamburg and we recently went there to take pictures of the grave site. It had Frank listed as 1870 to 1926. His wife, Camella was born 1869 and died 1925. There is also a son, Angelo listed as 1888 to 11/28/1916. There were several children, maybe 11? Anna was born in New Hamburg and was my grandmother. Her married name was Anna VanWagenen. When both Frank and Camella died, she had to live with her older brother, John. I will check with my Mom. It seems like the Federal Census Records have my great grandmother listed as "Carmela Bisegina" - I'm not sure but this the closest listing that I am able to find. My Mom tells me that her grandfather, Francesco/Frank was a brick layer in Italy and there is supposed to be a church with his name on one of the bricks (if the church is still there).

Hello

I apologize for this message, I just wanted to see if this is Genny that I knew back 12 years ago? This is Tamerack from La Conner.
