Does anybody out there know anything about a B.V. Reed who is in Oliver Twp., Jefferson Co., PA on the 1870 census? He was born 1831 in PA, has a wife, Eve, born 1841. Children: Robert J. Reed, born 1864; Daniel Reed, born 10/1866; Norman E. Reed, born 1869; and possibly an Alberton Reed, born 1877. They made their way to Elk Co., PA anyway. I have questions concerning siblings of B. V. Reed, specifically, did he have a sister named Rachel?

Surnames: Reed Heim
Hi there. This is such an old post, I don't know if this will go through, but I'm also related to the family that you mentioned through their daughter Lulu Inez (Reed) Callaghan. B.V. is short for Benjamin VanLeer Reed and his wife was Eva Heim (they were first cousins - their mothers being sisters with the surnam VanLeer). I have a photograph of Eva and Robert James "Jim" Reed, as well as a bunch information concerning their ancestors. I'm not sure if Benjamin had a sister Rachel, although it doesn't look like I've ever looked into any of his siblings and would like to. If you get this, please feel free to leave a post or write me at JDJames89@aol.co, as I would love to get in contact. There is some weirdness on my specific branch of thr Reeds(concerning Lulu and her husband) and would love to see what you might know as well. Thanks and I hope to hear from you.

Boy, that WAS an old post! LOL!

I have since discovered that they did not have a sister Rachel, but most of BV Reed's family married into other families that I am related to.

All of Lulu's children went by the name of Reed, despite her marriage to Michael Callaghan. Is that the weirdness you are talking about? I grew up in Kersey, PA and knew a number of Reed's that were descended from Lula and they are going by Reed to this very day.

I see. I know what you mean, though, with this Pennsylvania genealogy. I think everyone's related to the to only about ten families in one way or another, lol.

It's funny that you mentioned Lulu's kids going by Reed. That's exactly the weirdness I was talking about, although I didn't know that Avis (Callaghan) Lingenfelter (Lulu's daughter) had any siblings (figuring out who Lulu and Avis were in censuses was hard enough!), but I knew they both went back to using Reed for a while. I know this isn't your family, but you don't happen to know anything else about Lulu's kids or know of anyone who might? That's extremely interesting.

It sort of seemed like the marriage to Michael Callaghan was short (I think I remember that he was older than she was), and afterwards Lulu lived with her brother, whom Avis referred to as "Uncle Jim" on the back of a photograph of the two of them. I don't know...something about it all just seemed strange and It'd be great to figure it out.

Thanks for the response and, while I couldn't help you out with your Reeds, I'm glad you've had success in the, oh...nine years since this first post, ha, ha.

I have been collecting information on them, mainly because they were Fox and Horton Twp. families.

I'm at work right now, but I'll send you a report when I get home tonight. I can't promise it's complete, but it's what I've picked up from the courthouse and obituaries from the newspapers and whatnot.

Just realized that I made a typo when adding my e-mail address the first time. It is JDJames89@aol.com (not ".co")
Sorry about that, hope it didn't cause any trouble.
