I am seeking the Masonic membership of John Fisher Currie b.1841 in the eastern part of the Closeburn Parish of Dumfriesshire, Scotland. He lived most of his life after leaving Dumfriesshire in Glasgow. He may have joined Freemasonry prior to leaving Dumfriesshire. He was brought up in the Whitestanes Parkgate region and probably worked on farms in the region as his father George Currie was an agricultural farm worker, livinf near Ae - Whitestanes and Womanrigg which I think is now called Yeomanrigg east of Lochmaben. John F moved to Glasgow for work in Insurance and Clothing lines and died in 1915. His masonic membership would certainly have been in Glasgow as well as he lived there prior to his marriage in 1880 to Elizabeth Thorburn. Elizabeth's father was also a mason on the Johnstone Parish of Dumfriesshire and was a Bacon Curer. We can be sure of John F's membershp as his son John William Thorburn Currie joined Freemasonry as a Lewis (prior to age 21yrs) which can only be done if his father was a member of the craft when the son is born. My Grandfather also George Currie used to speak of his father's Masonic membership as well. John F Currie lived in the central Glasgow City region of 201 Gascube Rd, 4 Carfin St, 104 Buccleuch St and finally at 40 Langside Rd Governhill/Crosshill suburb. Anyone who can assist in finding John F Currie's Masonic membership it would be very much appreciated. I have contacted THe Grand Lodge of Scotland and they are unable to find his membership details. A friend in Dumfries (Helen Murray) has also been helping but we are unable to come up with any results. Best wishes and Fraternal Greetings to all. George Currie - PM Methven Lodge No.51 New Zealand.
