Scotlands People equivalent for England?

Can someone explain if there is an equivalent to Scotlands People (‘SP’) for England? Most of my ancestors are Scottish but some strayed across the border. The most reliable research tools in Scotland are scans of the original OPR and BMD records from 1855. Also censuses from 1841 to 1911.You do have to buy credits for SP for a modest cost but you can glean so much from the original documents compared to transcriptions. I am an Ancestry subscriber but find the searches to be mainly blunt instruments.

There is no one-size-fits-all site.

There is a list of useful web sites in Board Information on both the UK/General and England/General boards. Start at GENUKI (http://www.genuki.org.uk). After exploring the site, go to the page relevant to the location in which your ancestors lived for more detailed information.

You might also find the Really Useful Sources site (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~lancsopc/R...) helpful.

Once you establish where in England your ancestors lived, post the details on the relevant location mailing list or message board where you'll receive assistance from those with local knowledge.
