Hello! I am the person who has information regarding a possible Hessian Soldier Connection. But Please Note That in Fact "Daniel Eschman" is not the probable Hessian Soldier we are looking for.. I have all but eliminated him completly.. My Great Grandfather Jeramiah Ishman was positive the first "Ishman" was a German Soldier paid by the British to come here during the Revolutionary war.. He was also sure we came from Canada and possible Nova Scotia.. This is how I found Georg Jakob Oestmann, Astman, Ostman, Aikman, Artzmann.. (these are all the name variations he had in Nova Scotia) The Hessian we should focus on is Geog Jakob Astmann, Oestmann, Ostman, who was a soldier in Ansbach-Bayreuth.. He was granted 150 acres in Nova Scotia in 1784 and left there with a wife and children after 1791..He had a child named Georg Junior named after him and who is also listed with him on the 1791 census...I have researched this for years and I am quite confident this is who we should be looking at... The earliest form of Ishman that appears in the US is "Istman" also Istmann, Eastmann, Eastman, which can be found in various PA census records and cycle through until finaly settling on Ishman around 1860 where it has stayed since..
