I just received copies of 2 NYC marriage certificates, one from 1937 and the other from 1905. I found something interesting on both...both marriages were performed by reverends. The grooms and brides were all Jewish so this puzzles me. I would think that if they weren't married by a rabbi, they would at least have a non-denominational service.

Does anyone know if this was common and why?
