I am searching for info on John MOODY who is on the 1665 Hearth Money Roll of Raphoe, Co. Donegal, Ireland.
John MOODY is also the name of the Rev. James MOODY's father who (his father John) was said to be of Tandragee (spelling?), Co. Armagh, Ire.
This Co. Armagh John Moody married Elizabeth Shannon and they had son Rev. James Moody b. 1705 in or near Magherally, Co. Down, Ireland.
Rev. James was a non-subscribing Presbyterian minister.
He married Frances KENNEDY daughter of the Rev. Gilbert Kennedy whose line dates way back in Scottish history.
The Moodie's - Mudie's (as the name is spelled in Scotland) were found together in Ayrshire, Scotland with the Kennedy's and many of the other families linked to this line.
Even though my last name is spelled MOODY in the more traditional English way, my father's ydna has shown that we do Not match to the English Moody's.
This past summer I hired an Ulster, Ireland research group to do some searching around for me and in their report they told me that Moody is Not an Irish surname.
I've seen the O'Mudaigh (spelling) mentions but doubt that is part of my family and since the Ulster researchers didn't pick up on this either, it casts more doubts in my mind.
However my family does have many links to those families from Scotland.
We now have 2 near matches to others whose Moody ancestors came from Co. Londonderry, Ireland as well.
The Ulster research report lists only those Moody's found in the early records of Co. Londonderry and a scant few from Co. Down.
If anyone knows if the John Moody from the 1665 Hearth Money list ever had sons (James, John, Thomas, William, Daniel are all common in our family lines), that came over to Co. Londonderry or went to Co. Down, or to America or CAN, I would be most pleased to hear about it.
Thank You for any info.
