Hi,
is there anyone out there who did some research on Samuel Silver?
He was born around 1806 in Clapham, Surrey, and by the 1850's he was vicar in West Wratting, Cambridgeshire.
The reason I ask is my 3rd great-grandmother, Catherine Copley. In 1851, she was a house servant at his home in West Wratting. She was born in Claypole, Lincolnshire, about 90 miles away. In 1852, she married my 3rd great-grandfather (WH Graham), who according to the marriage certificate, was living in Hastings, over 100 miles from West Wratting and 180 miles from Claypole.
These distances were quite long at that time, and only Claypole was along the Great Northern Line (train installed in 1849, 2 years before), not Cambridge nor Hastings.
I would like to know how it was possible for a Lincolnshire girl working in Cambridge to meet a guy living in Hastings. I am hoping that someone might have found some kind of archive of the West Wratting vicarage, or of Samuel Silver himself. Did they have a summer home in Hastings? Or did they order some furniture at my great-grandfather's shop, who was a cabinet maker?
Any hints or tips would be most welcome!
Regards,
Tom
