My Great-Grandmother was ANNIE MULCHRONE DOWNEY born 1861 in Co. Mayo, probably in Westport. Her parents were JOHN MULCHRONE and MARY HOBAN. Her sisters and brothers were CATHERINE (went to school in Westport), MARY and PATRICK and were born, probably in Westport, within the 1855 to 1865 timeframe. Annie, Catherine and Mary moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA where Catherine and Mary became Catholic Nuns and Annie married Walter Downey.

Patrick stayed in Ireland and joined the Royal Irish Constabulary. He married Mary Spain and moved to Co. Westmeath, living in Kilbeggan and Streamstown, Mullingar. Patrick and Mary (Spain) Mulchrone had 4 daughters: Mary Josephine (Minnie McDonough), Margaret (Gretta McGearty), Rose and Kathleen (Professor, Galway University).
