I sent away for the death records for a couple that are related to me through my grandmother. The man is Nelson Benjamin Lawton, grandma's brother, and the wife was Kate Stoker Brown Lawton.
I know where they lived in the late 1950's. Have found the Christmas cards they sent to Grandma who died in 1960, so can place them in Alexandria, Rapides, La in 55-59, but not after she died.
In the 1930 Federal Census, He was enumerated as Ben Lawton, and for the first time, shows up married to Kate. I know of only one child at this point, Diane, and one step daughter that was from Kate's first marriage. I have no idea where they were married except to know that it was not Rapides Parish.
I was trying to hire someone to help with my research. I tried to send away for their death records, but as I am not the DIRECT descendant or participant in a law suit, they would not release the records to me. He started to do some research and has declined to do further work, siting poor eyesite due to complications with diabetes. So am looking for someone else to do my research. I guess I will have to be happy with thier obituary articles.
He told me in one bried email letter that Nelson was usually spelled Lawson, not Lawton, and that he was still alive in 1959, and that he found an article listing Kate as his widow in 1962, so that limits the years to search for his obituary.
His niece Gladys, daughter of sister Nellie Marie Lawton is still living at age 93. She would like to know what happened to her uncle, and if possible, his daughter Diane Lawton.
