According to Robert Spence Harper’s marriage certificate which can be seen at
www.novascotiagenealogy.ca
Robert Spence Harper was 22 years old in 1932. His occupation was mechanic, and his religious denomination was Presbyterian. His residence is given as Port Williams, Kings Co, NS and his place of birth is the same. His father was William Harper born in Scotland and his mother’s name is given as Senery Hatt.
He married Clara Jessie Russel (dau of Milford Russel and Anne Hyson) in New Ross on June 25, 1932
The name of his mother stumped me for awhile, because the 1911 census records her name as Vera. However is checking vital stats for some other members of the family, I found the birth record of a sister to Robert born in 1913. Her name was Evelline Senery Harper born 1913 on Church St. Kings Co. Her birth record in 1913 provides verification of the correct name of Roberts mother. The birth record of Evelline records her parents as William Spencer Harper and Vera Senery (Hatt) Harper.
The 1911 Census can be accessed at
www.automatedgenealogy.com
Robert is living with his parents and siblings in Kings Co. It is a large family consisting of William and Vera, 4 daughters and 7 sons between the ages of 17 and 4 mos. All are born in Nova Scotia except William who is born in Scotland. All are listed as Scottish ethnicity except Vera, who is German. There is no indication of any possibility of First Nation ancestry.
