Searching for any crumbs of information on SLOOP surname in MD. I know about Joseph Sloop and his Rev. War records. Looking for parents of Mary Sloop Lape b. 1789 MD, and her possible brother John. Mary is related to Hiram Sloop b. 1804 PA found in Cincinnati. Mary dies in Ohio in 1867.

Another SLOOP researcher told me that early will books in Maryland list: John Sloope, debtor, 1692, Adam Sloop, debtor 1752; William Sloops listed as an appraiser of estates for wills between 1760-1770, and Phillip Sloops, Appraiser 1761. I haven't been able to find these records.

Any information greatly appreciated. I'm particularly interested in "Phillip Sloops". A "Phillip Sloop" appears in the 1810 PA census with four sons, possibly the above Hiram's father, and disappears after 1810.

I have no idea in which county in Maryland the SLOOP family may have lived. Joseph Sloop and a John Sloop were given lots in Garrett Co for their Rev. War service, but I have no idea if they ever lived there. Joseph also shows up in a 1790 MD census, Cecil Co. I find John Sloop dies as a result of the Rev. War.

Another, "Michael Sloop" is found in an early Baltimore Co. census.

The earliest record being "Henry Sloop" immigration record 1651.
