MORRISON, Ann b. c. 1782, In Belmont Co. 1820

Classification: Query
Surnames: MORRISON, IRWIN
Looking for lineage of my ancestor, Ann MORRISON. She was married to Arthur IRWIN. Her grave was originally located near Ohio Wesleyan University but it was moved in 1901 to the Old Graveyard Section of the Oak Grove Cemetary on Sanduusky Street in Delaware, Ohio. Her daughter Margaret Jane Faris' grave is next to hers. Her tombstone reads "ANN - Wife of Arthur Irwin - Died May 2, 1856 - Age 74 Yrs.". This would make her year of birth about 1782.

The 1820 Belmont Co. census lists two foreigners not naturalized in Arthur Irwin's household and one female 45 and over, i.e., born 1775 or earlier, but none that would encompass a birth year of 1782. It is reasonable to assume that the female 45 and over was Ann and that she was born outside of the United States (probably in Ireland or Scotland).

My research has shown the following possible connections:
It is possible, but not proven, that Ann was in the family of JOHN and MARGARET MORRISON. If so the children (not necessarily in correct order or complete) included: ALFRED, ANN, GEORGE, ARTHUR, and SANFORD. It is also possible that ANDREW MORRISON, born 8 Aug 1785 in Maryland, was a brother of Ann. Either George or Andrew, depending on source, had a son WILLIAM Morrison who was born 16 Feb 1810 in Barnesville, Belmont Co. and died 2 Dec 1851 in Andrew Co., Missouri. William married SARAH H. ANDERS/ANDREWS born 15 Jun 1820 Baltimore Co., Maryland. Their children were Andrew Jackson Morrison b. 1837, George Washington b. 1839 Monroe Co., OH, Mary Ann b. 1843, Nathan b. 1845, Rachel Ann b. 1847, Margaret Jane b. 1851, and possibly Franklin. A close relationship is supported by location, the fact that two children carried the middle name of Ann, and the fact that one child was named Margaret Jane ( One of Ann's children was also named Margaret Jane.).

Arthur Irwin and J. MORRISON were executors of the will of Robert Laughlin that was signed 29 Mar 1813 and probated in Belmont County 14 Dec 1813.

A church roster of Rev. Joseph Anderson, who was a pastor in Belmont County in the early 1800s, lists Arthur Irwin, ROBERT MORRISON, William Faris Sr., and William Faris Jr. Robert is probably a close relative of Ann, either her father, uncle, cousin, or brother.

In "History of Noble County" by L.H. Watkins, Chicago 1887 (Noble is next to Belmont Co.), it states that Alfred Morrison and his brothers George, Arthur, and Sanford and their father, John Morrison came to Noble Co. from Maryland about 1818.
