Alice Hanan, aged 17, and her sister, Mary, aged 16, came to Australia on the Panama in 1850 as a "famine orphan" under Earl Grey's scheme to reduce workhouse numbers.
According to the records here, the girls were the daughter of Brian and Mary - Mary, senior, still living in Eckford - Mary, Junior, born in Ballyna (no birthplace given for Alice) - Religion RC.
I'm thinking that there were possibly younger children still with their mother at Eckford.
Does anyone have any information on this family?
Alternatively, how do I find out what workhouse they came from?
