This is my Great-grand-aunt's family. I believe S.S was born in Louisiana in 1842. His name may possibly have been Solomon Samuel, and lived in Pike Co. Mississippi in 1850 w/the Willis and Jane SIMMONS family. He and Zilpha seemed to have married in 1869 because their first child, a boy, "F.B.", appears to be born in 1870 in KS. Next child is Willis, b. 1871 in KS, then Grace in 1874, then M.A. in 1876, James in 1878, then Harry in 1880. I believe the family lived in Union, Washington County, KS from the late 1860s, but that is a guess based upon my own great-grandparents marrying there in 1869. This SIMMONS family continued to live in Union through the time of the 1880 census. Zilpha's siblings nearly all moved to CA and WA via the Oregon trail in the 1880s; I don't know if the SIMMONS family left with them or remained in KS or moved to Johnson Co. MO w/Zilpha's youngest sister and Zilpha's father and 2nd wife. Does anyone know where this SIMMONS family went by 1900? Family oral history has "Aunt Dippy" deceased in 1891. I don't know anything more about her children. Please contact me if you know anything about them. Thank you!
