I have a copy of a marriage cert for my great great grandfather Abraham Hitch 29/6/1867 to Maria Osborn at the Parish Church Dovercourt Essex ( Tendring) listing his father as Willam Hitch, Harwich occupation as a brickmaker

I have found Abraham and Maria and family 2 censuses only

on the 1881 census
Abraham aged 41 so b.abt 1840 stating place of birth Ely Cambridgeshire plus Wife Maria and surviving children Abraham abt 1873 Joseph abt 1880 and David abt 1885 ( only daughter Johanna Maria had been born 1868 and died 1869) all living at No 2 Rookery cottage Dovercourt Essex with Maria's father

on 1891 census
Abraham aged 51 widower plus sons Joseph and David only together with sister Elizabeth Wilkin aged 32 so she would have been born abt 1859 and stating Deptford ken as place of birth now a widow with her son Walter Wilkin aged 9 so abt 1882 born Kentish Town London and at the 1891 Census all living at Heath Road Penketh Warrington

NB update 2013 a long time after this post was first listed I have been able to establish that the census incorrectly states Elizabeth as being Abraham's sister by tracing her back and finding her marriage and place on other census. This relationship may have been put down in the census so that her presence in the house would be socially acceptable in that era. I was also able to find Abraham, on the 1911 census in Portsmouth when this was made publically available.

I have been unable to trace the following
- any other details for father William Hitch, brickmaker, except for that shown on Abraham's marriage certificate so have hit a brick wall !

Can anyone help me find information on William and maybe find his wife's name in particular as he is the link to go back further in the line. I'd like to know more about Joseph 1848 as according to the only record I found the census he had been married and as a naval engineer

- I haven't found any other records for Abraham's brother Joseph Hitch born about 1848 in Heaton, Essex apart from the 1901 census where he ws living in lodgings along with Abrahams son, David Hitch who was born 1885

I hope someone can help with William or Joseph it would be much appreciated
