Our Sutherland family descended from John Sutherland, coachman, to the Duke of Sutherland. He may have worked at Dunrobin Castle as 'Robin' became our family nickname. John Sutherland emigrated to Nova Scotia from Dornoch, Sutherlandshire, Scotland in 1831. He arrived with his wife Janet (Murray), their enfant son William, his mother in-law (Janet Murray, widow of George Murray) and his cousin, Duncan Sutherland. Duncan was born in Rogart(1797), and we have information to suggest John was also born there about 1800. Visit us for more information.
