Looking for Info on my Great Grandmother Margaret Jane Barnes, born Apr 1852, Hr Mille married Joseph Smith born June 1837. They moved from Hr Mille to Grand Bank sometime between 1904 and 1921. They both died within a five week period in 1925 in Grand Bank. Their daughter Sarah Smith was my Grandmother.
Thankyou in advance.

Thank you for your reply Kevin.
Here is some of the infomation that I have. Sometime between 1904 and when the 1921 census were taken in Grand Bank, Joseph and
Margaret Smith moved from Hr Mille to Grand Bank. They had nine
children and they were all born in Hr Mille and all moved to Grand Bank.In October 2003 Capt Jack Smith, grandson of Joseph and
Margaret Smith told me that Margarets maiden name was Margaret Jane Barnes and that her father was George Barnes. Capt Smith lives in Ottawa and in 2003 was Captain of the Irish Emmigrant replica ship Fannie Johnson while it was in North America. He was also Captain of the Norma and Gladys. He is the son of Alex Smith son of Margaret and Joseph. Margaret was born April 1852
Let me know if you can add anything to this,
Once again thank you for the reply.
George

Hi,

My grandad was Wilfred Taylor and he was the Anglican Schoolteacher in Hr Mille in c.1911-1912.
When we were growing up in Brockville Ontario, my father Reg Taylor used to take our family over to visit Joe Barnes' Newfoundlander family in upstate New York.
I have lost touch with this Barnes family but have often wondered if they weren't originally from Hr Mille . I would appreciate it if anyone can connect me to them.

Hi Linda,

I just happen to stumble across your post here while doing some research on my father's side of the family. My Father Austin was born in Hr. Mille, and his mother's name is Almeda and his father's name is George. When I was just I a boy I do remember visiting family in Buchans. Chances are it was your husband and his folks. The sisters and brothers of Almeda that you listed I do recall hearing while I was growing up.

My father in law Sandy (Alexander) Barnes said he remembers you. Do you have a sister Anne? My husband Ken went horseback riding her once when they visited you, or vice versa. Ken also has a brother Steven. Sandy and Faith still live in Buchans next to the graveyard.

Do you have any info on the Barnes families, including your own. I am doing a famliy tree for my kids?

Linda

The only infomation that I have on the Hr Mille Barnes is what I previously posted. My Great grandmother was born Apr 1852 in Hr Mille to George Barnes, She died in Grand Bank Apr 1925. She married Joseph Smith and had nine children, all born in Hr Mille.
The Pardys from Hr Mille that I have are William Pardy married Elizabeth Hardy They had eight children. One son Charles born abt 1780 died 11 Apr 1869 Grand Bank. Charles
moved to Grand Bank and married there. All of the early Pardys in Grand Bank are decendants of this Charles Pardy.
This information is based on a letter written by Rev William Marshall Grandy before he died 1939.

I have a William Barnes from Somewhere in Fortune Bay but he was born in 1820. He married a Maria Yates(Yeates). Children of William & Maria are: William, Mary Ann, John Thomas, Samuel, George & Abel. They were all born around Brazil Island off the south west coast of NEwfoundland & Trout River from 1843 to 1866. I am thinking that William descends from Ireland. I have hit a wall with Maria. If anyone has anyone info it would be appreciated. Thank you in advance
