I have just come accross a transcript of a letter given to one William McLeod who emigrated to Oxford County, Canada.
"This certifies that the bearer hearof, William McLeod, is a native of this parish, wherin he was born on the 20th of April in the year 1806 and that during his residence among us, he always, as far as we know, behaved soberly, honestly, and inoffensively, so that we know nothing to hinder his admission into any Christian Society where providence may order his lot.
Given at Rogart, in the county of Sutherland, N. Br. on Monday this 22nd day of June 1835 in the presence and by appointment of the kirk session.
Attested by: John MacKenzie, Mdr. Alex. Gunn, Sess. Clk."
I first thought that the N. Br. was of the province of New Brunswick in Canada but it seems no Sutherland Co. ever existed there. Can anyone tell me what the letters N. Br. indicate?
