During the Great War, he was courtmartialed for being on the side of the Allies & lost his life, 20 Nov 1917. Barbara Jelenek, born 1839, Lukavec, Bohemia. Children: Joseph (a priest in South Africa); Rudolph (died in the great war working with the Allies); Karel (died in the same war); Frank (died in the Great War, serving with the Allies); John F. Lhota, Mary & Annie (who immigrated to the US); Amelia (stayed in Bohemia)
Dr. John Lhotka was educated in Lukavec & and Gymnasium at Tabor, Bohemia. In 1902 came to the US; returned to Bohemia entering the Bohemian University at Prague and graduated in 1909, with a degree of Doctor of Medicine. Because his political views were contrary to the reigning house of Austria , he chose to flee to Chicago in 1909, where he taught languages. In 1910, matriculated in the medicine department of Valparaiso University, IN, and graduated in 1913. In 1914, he located to Butte, MT.
