HAYES / CLARK - Wiltshire

Surnames: Hayes, Clark, White
George Hayes married Louisa Clark in December, 1845 in Cirencester Parish. Daughter Caroline was born in June, 1853. Quite probably there were other children but haven't found any yet.

Caroline Hayes married John Henry White in September, 1882, in Highworth Parish. Between then and 1884, the couple emmigrated to Australia - haven't tracked down exactly when. Yet. They had a daughter, Mabel, who was not registered in Victoria where they settled. Not sure (yet) whether Mable was born before or after they arrived here. There was a Mable White registered in June, 1883 in Highworth - this MAY be the daughter. The year would be about right.

At this stage I know more or less nothing about John White's family but I'm working on it.

So - two questions.

1. Can anyone with access to census records give me any information on the Hayes or Clark families?

2. I know very little about Wiltshire - except that Thomas Hardy's mid-Wessex was, in fact, Wiltshire. So I possibly have a very skewed perception of the county and its people. Can someone help me out here and give me a mid-1800's description of both Circencester and Highworth Parishes?

I would particularly like to know what towns/villages were encompassed by these Parishes.

John White became a miner in Australia but I somehow doubt that was his calling in Wiltshire.

And, of course, if you are related to these people I would love to hear from you. George and Louisa Hayes are my g-g-grandparents.

I have spend the last several years researching the Irish side of the family and this is my first venture into the English countryside.
