I am trying to find any info on my husbands great grand parents. They were Arthur and Emma Powley ( emma nee Rollings).
We know Arthur was born in Fransham, Norfolk and must have went to Rotherham to find work. We gather he there met Emma and married. they had a son called Arthur(my husbands grandfather)born at 150 Greasbro road Rotherham in Nov 1898 and a daughter called Elsie we think born 2 years earlier.
On Arthurs birth cert it says his father, Arthur, was a Coke ovens labourer.
We googled Greasbro road and came up with 2 of the same name but spelt differently. Greasbro road as it was spelt on the cert was in Sheffield near the old Tinsley railway yard. the other Road was spelt Greasbrough but was in Rotherham. Arthur was born at 150 greasbro Rotherham but was sent back with his sister to live with their grandparents in fransham norfolk. We are baffled as to what happened to Arthur and Emma.
Does any body know if there was an old coke works in either of these areas in the late 1800's and if there were any major incidences which could have resulted with the children becoming orphans? Any info re Greasbro Road or the Powley family would be gratefully appreciated.
