I’m seeking any information on the family of Jeremiah Richardson of Hubbardton, Vermont (b. about 1764 - d. 1813) and his wife Ruth (b. about 1766 - d. Sep 4, 1843). They were probably visited about 1811 by a nephew, also named Jeremiah Richardson (b.1796 - 1879) son of Elijah Richardson of Newport, N.H.
He is likely the father of Mary "Polly" Richardson (1803-1862). I have information that she was born in Hubbardton, VT written by her son, Samuel Joseph Churchill (1842-1932) in his book, "The Genealogy and Biography of the Churchill Family in America"(1901). It mentions that she had a sister Clara (1800-1854) and a brother named Jerry. I've since found that Clarinda is her full name and perhaps Jerry could be short for Jeremiah. Clarinda married Solomon Millington in 1820 and resided in Hubbardton, VT. The book says that her parents had six children, although I have only found five so far. The author does not list the parents names and that's the missing link in my research.
In the 1810 census for Hubbardton there is a Jeremiah Richardson listed as head of the house. He is the only Richardson listed in town. They seemed to have a full house of eight in the 1810 census, with two girls that fit the proper age ranges for Mary and Clara, two unknown women 16-25 and one 26-44 that is probably Ruth. As for men there is one 10-15 (possibly Jerry or the nephew?) and one unknown 16-25, along with one 26-44 who should be Jeremiah, Sr. One of them may also be that sixth child I haven't yet identified.
There is an article on the East Hubbardton Cemetery from the 1960's that I was able to locate that showed that the graves of Jeremiah and Ruth Richardson were there along with two infant sons, Dexter (d.1808) and Aaron (d. 1805). Jeremiah's stone read "d.[illegible] 1813 in his 49th year", next to him is "Ruth his wife d.4 Sept.1843 aged 77 years". The infants' stones helpfully declare them, "son of Jeremiah & Ruth". I later found these records confirmed in Vt. vital records on FamilySearch.org from the town clerk's card file. I searched all the Hubbardton cemeteries listed in that article and did find one other, "Henry Richardson d.1852 aged 51 years 8 months". He is alone in the North Cemetery, and I have no evidence that he is related.
I’ve followed a few leads of other Jeremiah Richardsons from that era but all lead nowhere. Does anyone recognize this family?
