I am the granddaughter of Thomas Marion Baldwin and Josie Payne who moved to Dubberly, LA in 1904 , Josie is the daughter of Lewis Farmer Payne and Elizabeth Nicholson, Lewis is the son of Green Berry shown as G.B. Payne on some documents and his wife Dorinda. That information is all that I have documentation for. We all, my dad and his siblings and me and my siblings and so on have always been told by our grandmother Josie who passed in 1978 but I remember her quite well, that she is of Cherokee Indian heritage as passed down to her from her elders and so on. She actually had some Indian features. I don't suppose we will ever be able to truly prove or disprove that information. Family back in the day were all just trying to get by and were not much for keeping records. If there is anyone out there that has further information about this line of Payne's I would love to hear from you. I believe and will always believe that I am a descendant of a Cherokee woman, and will remain proud of that information.
Also, if anyone out there has any information about the Baldwins of Georgia, I would love to hear about that. My Grandfather was Thomas Marion for sure and my Great Grandfather's name is Seagal , I "think", and his father was named William, I "think" no real documentation except those are names on death certificates. Some records on Ancestry seem to verify this information but nothing farther back.
