Her formal name was Delina Jane, but she was usually called Jennie. She was the daughter of Hiram Sheler/Scheler/Shealer and the wife of Charles Gilbert Lawton. She was the mother of three children:
Grace May Lawton b:Aug 1888 and her census information states born in Alabama.
Nellie Marie Lawton b:Nov 1884
Nelson Benjamin Lawton b:Sept 1886
I can find Charles and Nelson Lawton living in Decatur, Morgan County, Alabama in the 1900 census, and know that the family was in Michigan in 1880. As there is no census for 1890, I can only tell you that Delina Jane died between 1888 when Grace was born, and 1898. I have found a newspaper article on one of her children which states that Delina was dead at the time the article was written.
I have already sent away to the Michigan state clerks office and she did not die in Michigan, so can only assume that if Grace was born in Alabama, Delina/Jennie died in Alabama within this ten year gap of time.
If her death record can be found, it may confirm some things that are at this time, still up in the air.
I would be grateful for her obituary and if possible, the location of her grave in a cemetery.
