Martin & Edward BARRY b. 1820s

Classification: Query
Seeking family of BARRY brothers Martin (b. abt 1820) and Edward (b. abt 1825). Both always gave their place of birth as Limerick, Ireland.

Martin Barry was employed as a woodranger at Rossmore (civil parish Corcomohide in southern Limerick near the Cork border) when he married Lydia GRAHAM (daughter of John Graham) in 1849 in the Church of Ireland parish of Kilmeedy. Martin's father was given as John BARRY, labourer, on that marriage record. Martin and Lydia emigrated to the US with their daughter Jane in 1850; lived in Oswego, New York, where sons Martin Joseph and John Barry were born in the 1850s. Lydia died in Chicago in 1858, and Martin married Honora Agnes MAHONEY; they had 9 children together and lived in Illinois and Kanas.

Martin's brother Edward Barry married Mary BEGLEY (place and date unknown). Their son Edward James was born in Brooklyn, New York in January 1856. A few years later, they also were living in Chicago, Illinois near Martin. A son Michael was born in Illinois about 1860; he died in 1888 while visiting his uncle Martin Barry in Chase County, Kansas. Edward and Mary settled in Grundy County, Illinois, where Mary died in 1877. Edward then married widow Ellen (Wall) Henderson, whose Wall family was also from along the Limerick-Cork border. They had a daughter Kate Barry.

Edward's obituary (1915) said he left brothers in Ireland, but did not mention names or places. Due to the late start of Catholic records in the area around Rossmore, have not been able to identify family of Martin and Edward BARRY. Is anyone else tracing Barry families in this area?
